This next summer of _(year)__ I plan to spend (length of trip) in the Dominican Republic, working as a volunteer with Building Homes Building Hope a 501 3(c) non-profit.
Building Homes Building Hope has worked in the rural southwestern desert of the Dominican Republic since 1996. Since that time volunteers have built and repaired homes, poured cement floors, painted murals, built kitchens and fixed electrical work. To date over 300 individuals have participated in BHBH’s Journey of Hope.p>
I am really looking forward to volunteering with BHBH! I know that while living with a Dominican host family I will learn much about the Dominican culture, their food, their language and the difficulties of life in a developing nation. I will be completely immersed in the culture as I participate in the home construction/repairs, painting, and craft activities alongside other volunteers and local Dominicans.p>
In preparation for this trip, we will participate in meetings to learn about the history, culture, politics, religion and social systems of the Dominican Republic. We will also be working together on various fund-raisers and will ask local businesses to help contribute to our cost.
