What better way to give than to give of yourself. Una Vida provides individuals the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic for two weeks, in order to build homes and hope.

Join Us!

Participants will leave their comfortable American surroundings to spend time living and working in rural areas of the Dominican Republic. Their exposure to another culture encourages them to learn more about themselves and experience how people live in developing nations.

You will live with host families during your stay, immersing yourself in the culture, conversing in Spanish, and sharing daily activities with local residents. As we work to improve the quality of life of those in La Descubierta, most volunteers find the biggest change occurs within themselves.

Whether you are great at construction, can speak fluent Spanish, or love doing arts and crafts with kids, your abilities will be greatly appreciated. Everyone has a talent that will do wonders to help people in need have hope for a better future.

BUILDING MINDS

The Idea

Building Minds seeks to extend the opportunity to obtain a university education to young people in the Dominican Republic.  100% of funds donated to Building Minds go directly to our student scholarships.

The Facts

According to the World Health Organization, the average annual individual income in the Dominican Republic is $5,500.  On average it costs $2,500 annually to attend a university. Sadly, there are no student loans or federal financial aid in the Dominican Republic. The students in this program are the first in their families to go to college.

The Scholars

Building Minds is currently in partnership with four university students in the Dominican Republic. These students must submit their grades, follow an academic plan, and in exchange, BHBH has made the commitment to support these students financially, and provide them with an academic advisor.

Wendi Duval Medina

“My name is Wendy, and I’m 21 years old. My passion is teaching and I’m studying to be an elementary school teacher. I am the third generation of servants in my family. Building Homes Building Hope has built my family a house, and now they’re helping build me an education; I‘m in my third year in the university, and Building Minds has supported me for the past two years. I am proud to be the first in my family to graduate from high school and go on to college.” – Wendi Duval Medina
